All About Elda

Marriage and Family Therapy Intern

Why did you get into therapy?

  • From a young age, I was drawn to the complexity of human relationships and the quiet struggles people carry. That curiosity led me on a winding path through psychology, disability studies, and human development — until I discovered Marriage and Family Therapy and found my home. What captivated me was the field's rich perspective on how people change and how we function within our relationships and systems. For me, there is nothing more meaningful than being a part of someone's journey toward positive change.

What style do you implement in your counseling?

  • My practice is primarily grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Narrative Therapy, which I weave together with elements of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), the Gottman Method, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT/DBT), and Bowen Family Systems Theory. At its heart, my work is about helping people make sense of their story, experience deeper connection, and find meaningful, lasting change.

Who do you see the most (couples, anxiety, depression, families, etc.)?

  • My heart is drawn to working with neurodivergent individuals and their families, and I have a particular soft spot for children and teens. I also deeply love to support immigrants and multicultural families, those navigating life-altering medical diagnoses, and individuals within the LGBTQ+ community."

A self-help book you’d recommend:

  • Non-Violent Communication by Marshall B. Rosenberg, PhD
    • It changed my perspective of needs and communication.

Second favorite hobby:

  • DIY everything… from making stickers to building furniture to etching glass.  Rarely a day goes by without me trying to make something new.

Greatest Fear:

  • Not being able to support my family through difficult times.

Best movie you have seen in the last year

  • The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Favorite novel

  • Any book about fighting against social injustice.

Coolest place you have traveled

  • Campeche, Mexico: There are cenotes, a walled city (historically used to protect from pirates), incredible beaches, Mayan pyramids, jaw-dropping foods, and the celebrations and holidays are on a whole different level.

Hobbies and interests:

I love creating stuff with my family, learning about diverse people (past and present), swimming, enjoying chill sunny days, and trying to do yoga.
